Reading With Patriot

A reading program for elementary children

The joy of reading is a lifetime gift.

Children who read 20 minutes a day are more likely to score in the 90th percentile.

Tens of thousands of Hillsborough school children struggle to read.  In our Reading with Patriot program we bring one trained dog into the elementary classroom to read a book from our “Lilly the Lash” series, a character building series of books.  The dog’s presence makes reading time special.  The program encourages the children to continue reading after we leave.   As the children read additional books we reward their efforts by coming back to the classroom to read the next book in the series.  To encourage reading outside school we bring books for the children to keep and read at home.

While this program targets Title I schools it is open to all elementary schools within Hillsborough County.  Teachers can request our Reading with Patriot Program by calling the office.
